Genevieve Thornton: Safe Keeping, June 2014
These works were made for the SAFE 2014 exhibit at View Point Gallery, Bendigo. The exhibition was in support of Annie North Womens' Refuge, Bendigo. Raising awareness of violence against women. These artworks have been made with fabric, weighted down with a stone. Inside they have been filled with three poems written by the artist about the haunting effect of abuse against women and its lasting effects on their lives. The cocoon shape represents a permeable shell of protection. The tear represents the broken and scarred life of the victim. |
